THE READS PROGRAM encourages reading through events that inspire student readers and provide public recognition for reading achievements. The program hosts two events, a Spirit Night and a Recognition Night, for partnering elementary schools in malls across the United States. Run by local business sponsors and Hull Property Group, a retail real estate company specializing in enclosed shopping malls, all events are at no cost to participating schools as a community based marketing initiative that brings families to the mall in support of local reading success.
READS SPIRIT NIGHT
The READS Spirit Night is held at the beginning of the school year and supports school libraries and encourages students that reading is fun. The event is a family night out with fun interactive themed displays and games for students who can use their reading skills to win prizes. This type of family involvement is a highly effective tool in motivating students to read at an early age. For every student that attends, the program donates $1 to the school's library to invest in books and supplies.
READS RECOGNITION NIGHT
The READS Recognition Night is held at the end of the school year and publicly recognizes and rewards students who met their school's reading goals. Students and their families are invited to attend a special ceremony where readers are honored on stage for their achievement. They receive a certificate, hear from inspiring community leaders and can see their name displayed on a Wall of Recognition in the mall. Public recognition outside of the classroom and the home further encourages students to read.
